I ordered the 36 inch by 48 inch Homek Office Chair Mat for Hardwood Floors for my husband's desk, because he works from home and really wants a chair mat to protect the laminate flooring. Per the Amazon ad, the mat is made of PVC that is "free from BPA and phthalate" and is "suitable for use on hardwood, laminate, stone, tile, or concrete floors", to protect them from damage caused by the feet/casters of desk chairs. The mat arrives rolled up, but flattened out after a couple of days of use. It didn't have any sort of smell and is clear in color. It is about two or three millimeters thick, has texture on one side, and is smooth on the other. The smooth side goes down against the floor and the textured side is no slip. It is not very thick, but nicely made, with clean, smooth edges.That said, my husband said the mat slid all over the place, nearly caused him to fall, and after three days of use, he rolled it up and put into the junk closet. The chair would roll off the mat and then cause the mat to move. I think the issue is the mat is not heavy enough to stay in place by itself and is really too small for a full sized office chair with castors. It would be better suited for a desk with a regular chair or a child's desk where the castors have a much smaller foot print. You might also be able to use some non-permanent carpet adhesive in the corners to keep it in place, which I already have in the house, but my husband wasn't willing to give it a second try.Overall, I think the Homek Office Chair Mat for Hardwood Floors is really nice, but better suited for a child's desk or a chair without wheels. That said, it would make a GREAT craft mat or pet food mat as is. Four stars.
